The Subsidiary Churches of Roman Catholic Parish Říčany near Prague

The diploma thesis The Subsidiary Churches of Roman Catholic Parish Říčany u Prahy deals with churches, which currently belongs to the Říčany`s parish, and freely continues in the bachelor thesis The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Říčany. At the beginning, history of the parish is briefly introduced. The thesis is divided into chapters according to individual churches. The development of architecture, chronological description of the interior painting and sculptural decoration and liturgical applied arts, which are located in particular churches, follow after a historical introduction. The churches' most significant treasures include the original rotunda in Kostelec u Křížků, gothic frescoes in Olešky and Kostelec, the painting of Archangel Raphael with young Tobias by Karel Škréta in Kostelec, baroque altar in Tehov a classical tombstone of archbishop Salm-Salm in Kamenice. The biggest contribution of this thesis is the detailed summary, finding of analogies (particularly similarity of gothic presbyteries in Otice and Kunice, baroque reconstruction of churches in Tehov and Kolovraty and baroque altars in Kostelec u Křížků and Kamenice), dating of baroque frescoes in the presbytery of church in Kostelec, finding of provenance of altar in Tehov and elaborating of history of smaller villages (especially of...

Biography and Works of Printer and Wood-Cutter Michael Peterle (†1588)

Thesis about life and work of a printer and a woodcutter Michael Peterle is focused mainly on his assumed woodcutting activity (he was active between years 1562-1588). It is based on following assumption: although Michael Peterle did not sign his woodcuts, he illustrated portion of his prints. His printing office produced multitude of topical compositions and some interesting illustrated books. Photodocumentation and description of woodcutting illustrations and decoration (according to Soupis tisků Michaela Peterla staršího a jeho nástupců by Pravoslav Kneidl and more recent sources) was created during writing of this thesis. Attention was also focused on context of usage of illustrations. Afterwards Illustrations and decoration of Peterle's competition in the Czech Republic and Germany were examined. Conducted research showed, that Michael Peterle was not woodcutter, but only a colorist and a printer. This thesis provides another view on printing production in the second half of the 16th century. The influence of Aegean textile patterns on decoration of 18th dynasty Egyptian tombs

The M.A. thesis deals with the influence of Aegean textile patterns on the decoration of 18th dynasty Egyptian tombs. It attempts to provide answers to the question of a possible reconstruction of relations between the Aegean area and Egypt on the basis of this phenomenon. The first part of the thesis places textile into a broader context, dealing among others with its importance for both cultural areas and the technology of its fabrication. The second part of the thesis focuses in greater detail upon the occurrence of Aegean textile patterns in the New Kingdom, concentrating upon the tombs and the men that used these motives in their tomb decoration. The evaluation of the biographies, titles and the tombs indicates that a ceiling with Aegean textile patterns served as an element of legitimization for both the king and his officials. In the final part of the thesis I was able to establish the incorporation of the symbolic function of the Aegean textile patterns into the concept of kingship. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Necropoleis on the Vatican Hill. The decoration analysis and its paralels Roman art.

The topic of the Diploma thesis is "Necropoleis on the Vatican Hill. The decoration analysis and its parallels in Roman art." The diploma thesis is divided into several parts that are particularly analysed. The first part is focused on the Vatican area layout in ancient world and both ancient and contemporary area layouts are compared. The second part is focused on the analysis of mausoleums along Via Cornelia and their decoration. The thesis tries to find some parallels with the mausoleums in the roman art which proclaim the use of these iconographical materials in other settings and historical backgrounds. The next part describes the necropolis along Via Triumphalis and the most important tombs within the specific sectors. The individual subchapters deal with selected motifs, which meanings intersect the pagan and Christian world. The following part analyzes selected sarcophagi and their decorative motifs. Consequently, both observed contexts are compared. The last part of the thesis provides the dating of several lamps from necropolis along Via Triumphalis. Firearms in the Middle East. Beginnings, Production and Use.

This thesis deals with the development of the hand-held firearms in the Middle East with an emphasis on the period from the 15th to the end of the 18th century. In some passages it also marginally mentions the early 19th century. The first part of the thesis concentrates on the development of firearms in a historical context. The focus is primarily on the Ottoman Empire and partially on Egypt. Among other topics it also analyses the practical use of firearms and the related military tactics including the presence of firearms in major battles, as shown on contemporary paintings and miniatures. In the second part the author deals with the technical development of hand-held firearms. This section focuses mostly on the components of firearms and their development. This section also in some degree deals with the artistic aspects of the preserved firearms. The supplements consist of numerous photographs of the preserved exhibits in Czech and foreign collections and also of other visual materials. "Gentlemen, please, take of your hats": Methods of dating and interpretation of photographies from years 1850–1918 through historical mens fashion

„GENTLEMEN, PLEASE, TAKE OFF YOUR HATS“ – Methods of dating and interpretation of photographies from years 1850-1918 through historical mens fashion is compacted material for professional description of historical photographic material from noblemens collection funds based on basic knowledge of mens and partially child fashion, and related clothing accessories. In its entirety it brings a large amount of knowledge from history of the then mens fashion, which was after the downfall of the Austro-Hungarian empire overlooked or presented only in narrowly specialized sections, e.g. in the military section. A large part of this publication is based not only on the knowledge of description of mens clothing, but mainly of headwear. It is this clothing accessory that is pivotal to the observed era, and with a closer look, it can help accurately date and describe people captured on historical photographs. It is primarily meant for the specialized staff of memory institutions of Czech Republic, who deal with these given issues. At the same though, it can allow curators and owners of historical funds a way to describe collections of exhibits that are kept in their collection funds.
